Obama Eulogy For Mandela: Epitome of Hypocrisy and Fraud
There are too many leaders who claim solidarity with Madiba’s struggle for freedom, but do not tolerate dissent from their own people,” Obama said yesterday, as part of his eulogy for Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Two things: first of all, he must have been talking about himself, his Administration and the US government, in general, when he said that. There was not a single protest, whether it was against the war in Iraq and Afghanistan or as part of the Occupy Wall Street movement or in protests in years past, where protesters were not harassed, beaten or arrested on bogus charges by the police in any US city. Police regularly subject protesters of all kinds, including environmentalists and animal defenders under surveillance and violate their privacy rights just because they represent “dissent”, as Obama put it.
Oscar Lopez, a Puerto Rican activist who was agitating for independence of occupied Puerto Rico, has been in US prison for 30 years, even though he did not kill anyone or cause any property damage. Ibragim Todashev, a 27 year old immigrant from Chechnya was killed by FBI agents in his Orlando, Florida home, on May 22, 2013, with 7 billets, with one in the back of his head, execution style, and the FBI to this day, refuses to say anything about why they assassinated him (google it if you find this unbelievable. It was reported in reputable US papers.)
Aaron Swartz, a 26 year old Internet genius and a progressive activist who fought for privacy rights, among others, was harassed by police, FBI and prosecutors who wanted to send him to prison on hacking charges for 30 years. He battled the charges for two years and finally committed suicide.
Speaking of hacking, while Obama was saying those hypocritical words at the podium, Washington Post was reporting that the NSA uses google cookies (small files created on your hard drive while you’re browsing the Net and visiting Internet sites, used by corporations to surveil you to better target you with their advertisements), especially the so-called “PREF” cookies to “hack”, yes hack (not my word – read the Post) Americans’ computers. In case you don’t know what that means, it means the government can get possession of your passwords, your email, view files and photos on your computer, etc. A week ago, the Post also reported that the government uses cell phone data to track the movements of the citizens.
Most people have already heard about Bradley Manning who is serving a 35 year sentence for revealing US atrocities in Iraq and Afghanistan and embarrassing the government (which only shows that he is a decent and conscientious human being). Most people also know about Edward Snowden who had to leave his country and his loved ones to avoid Manning’s fate. The US has been trying to get him too. I suppose Obama doesn’t consider these young men dissidents or John Kiriakou, a former CIA official, who is in prison for 30 months for revealing to the World that torture is official US policy. US should be able to torture secretly. They have a reputation to protect.
Second, Washington Post believes and they’re probably right that Obama was criticizing Cuba when saying those words since he mentioned “leaders who claim solidarity with Madiba’s struggle for freedom”. Well, who has shown more solidarity with the struggle against apartheid, not just in words as Obama is good at, but in action, more than the people and government of Cuba? Cubans didn’t just say they were against apartheid; they sent troops and fought against the South African regime when they invaded Angola in 1974. Oh wait, maybe the US and British leaders did too? Not!! They called Mandela a terrorist! Okay, that was then. This is now. It wasn’t our Obama even though he only has nice things to say about Reagan.
Obama says he used to read every word of Mandela’s speeches and was inspired by his struggle against apartheid, even though he has absolutely no problem with the Israeli apartheid. Not only he has no problem with it, he has pledged more military aid to them than his predecessors, totaling over 40 billion for the next 10 years, most of it for military use. Do you know what other apartheid Nelson Mandela was against? That’s right: Israel’s. And do you know who else besides Mandela has shown solidarity with the struggle against Israeli apartheid? Cuban leaders.
And, that brings me to my final point: what Obama and his Wall Street and corporate masters are pissed off about Cuba is that they arrest and put in jail agents and provocateurs who get paid by the CIA to organize and agitate against the government in order to cause chaos and create conditions for a more overt US intervention for the purpose of overthrowing the socialist government, and the Cubans aren’t allowing it. What they’re really pissed off about Cuba and is why they have kept it under embargo and blockade for over 5 decades is that they don’t let US corporations to profiteer off their people and resources.
So, Mr. “Kill list” Obama who orders the assassination of people without due process can bark like a dog and read his corporate masters’ eulogy and shed crocodile tears when he’s not licking corporate behinds, all he wants. Most people in the world, including many here, know he’s a fake and a lying fraud. The days of US Empire are numbered and they know it. That’s why they have been tracking everyone from my 90 year old neighbor and her cat to Nelson Mandela himself while he was alive whom they now speak so admirably of.
